About us
UA Tech Journal (UTJ ) is an independent, English-language media platform covering Ukrainian startups, venture capital, and technology innovation. Through original interviews, analysis, and reporting, we spotlight the founders, engineers, and investors shaping Ukraine’s tech ecosystem — often under extraordinary conditions.
Our coverage connects Ukraine’s most ambitious innovators with a global network of investors, partners, journalists, and analysts. We follow the trends and milestones shaping the country’s startup landscape — from early-stage founders and new funds to emerging products, major rounds, unicorns, and international growth.
We believe thoughtful journalism can shape outcomes. By sharing the stories of Ukraine’s entrepreneurs, we aim to foster recognition, investment, and collaboration, building deeper relationships across borders and raising the profile of Ukraine’s tech ecosystem worldwide.
We tell the stories behind the startups — and the futures they’re building.

Founder & Editor-in-chief
UA Tech Journal was founded by Aaron Thomasson, an American communications strategist who moved to Kyiv in 2023. With nearly a decade of experience in tech communications — including roles at global companies like SAP and EPAM, as well as five years working in the startup ecosystem — Aaron has spent most of his career collaborating with Ukrainian founders and innovators.

In addition to operating UTJ, Aaron leads global PR and analyst relations at Competera, a Ukrainian-founded technology company, where he helps elevate the brand across European and U.S. markets. His background spans media and analyst relations, public relations, internal communications, crisis strategy, and multimedia storytelling. He grounds his approach to all communication in his belief that stories shape our world.
Inspired by the talent, resilience, and pragmatism he encountered across Ukraine’s tech scene — and recognizing the absence of consistent, high-quality international coverage — Aaron launched UTJ to fill that gap. His goal: to create a space where global readers can connect with the people and ideas driving Ukraine’s next chapter of innovation, and to bring greater visibility, investment, and opportunity to a tech ecosystem that deserves the world’s attention.
